The wonder of the weekend

This is my colleague Brendan....... engaging in my new favourite thing ..... Geocaching !

As this weekend stretched out before me I had an outline of events. Friday was a bonus because my students and I spent the day outside in Bronte Creek park geocaching. I am now obsessed by the way. I am getting a field GPS gizmo as soon as possible... then look out ! Hidden treasure here I come. I had no idea this even existed. Right under my nose.... such a perfect match for my personality type. I have thought of another use for the field GPS though. When you are standing in a spot , you just hit this button "mark" and it automatically marks the coordinates of that spot and gives the location a number ( lets say 001) You go to another spot and press Mark and presto you have a new spot marked. All of these locations are stored and this little device will lead you back to each one !! I have found the device that will save my future. Every time I put something down I will just "mark" the spot! Wallet, glasses, keys, etc. Imagine how much grief this could have saved me ( and my husband ) 4 months ago during the whole wallet fiasco in Tennessee ! This device could literally change my life and the lives of those who must endure my continual search for everything important to me. Case in point - I went to teach on Thursday night and was so proud of myself en route ..... photocopying done, mentally prepared, exam review in my large black binder that holds every scrap of information relating to my course, ( I refer to it as the bible) and my TA had just texted me that she was going to pick me up a coffee ! Sweet. As I pulled in to the parking spot and glanced to the passenger seat expecting to see the Bible... I gasped. Not to worry it was most likely in the back .... nope. As I headed to class a million things crossed my mind as to what I could say to the 40 students ranging in age from 17 - post 35 . After conferring with my TA we decided on the truth - we dismissed the class and took down email addresses promising to email the exam review when the Bible was located ! I was a mess . I could barely communicate . My mind kept seeing the Bible on the front seat of the car ! Where was it. What would I do without it . Why did I not have a back up ? Why why why why ? This story ends well. The bible was sitting in my day classroom the whole time . Safe, warm ..... and waiting for me Friday morning. However, marking it's location would not have helped. Maybe there is a flaw in my plan. I can so see it working in a party setting though. I might look a little strange carrying around my GPS and marking my spots all night - like a metaphorical marking of my territory. So that is my geocaching story. I am going to try the real thing though. I have checked out the website geocaching.com and tons of treasure awaits me right here in Guelph. More about the weekend coming soon.
