It is funny how grade school really sets us up for life. In our world, or rather in our society, an individual does not get prevented from engaging in criminal activity. We always hear of those sad stories where a dangerous indivdual has been sending out warning signals for years. Until they actually hurt someone though, nothing can be done. As long as it is only threats , we just wait. Once a person takes that final leap into another realm - the one where they have no regard for other human beings - then we do something. It is too late though. It is the same in school. We watch these kids doing hurtful things. We watch them insult each other. We watch them physically harm one another. We hear them utter threats. We stand by and do nothing while they make life a horror for those around them. The thing is - all this watching is also enabling. We are allowing them to get deeper and deeper into the dark world that will lead them to a place from which there is no turning back. We in education have become enablers. Like society, we wait until the crime is so big that it is a tragedy. It is something that could have been prevented. We are helping our children to become broken members of society who will destroy and cause pain. Why are we so afraid to help them? Why do we keep setting them up for failure. Why can't we be the adults and stop this ? This fear is what is contributing to the general decline of humanity. Our fucking fear is destroying our children.
